Nicole: Shave for the Brave

Thank you to everyone who donated to my head shave this summer. I far surpassed my goal of one thousand dollars by raising $1 660!

My hair was donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, where it will be made into a wig along with 6 other donations for a woman who can't afford to buy herself a wig.

Under the Knife

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for my family and friends and for all of the women who have gone this journey before me.

I have completed four chemo treatments at 3 weeks apart with minimal side effects.  I've really done quite well.  There has been a change in the original plan and I am going in for surgery tomorrow, Wednesday, October 12th at 2:30 pm.  I am having a Modified Radical Mastectomy on the right side.  I will be in the hospital for a day or two and then at home recovering.

Thank you for your prayers and support.  Keep on praying!

Love,
Deb

Round Two

Hi Everyone,
The first treatment went very well.  I had no nausea or vomiting, have lost all my hair and had a bit of a sore throat and mouth.  I've been told I look good, with or without a wig or headgear to looking like a Japanese wrestler. Ha! Ha  It all depends on the angle.  I went to the cabin for a week and just got back from Eastend visiting the newest member of the Bauche clan- Edward Thadeus Mayoh-Bauche,the new family are all doing well.  My neutrophils(white blood cells) were low on friday so I will need to get blood work tomorrow am to see if they are up so I get chemo tomorrow at 8:15.  I was told last friday I will be having 8 chemo treatments-4 of FEC and 4 of Taxatere.  I feel so blessed, loved and supported.  Thanks

It has begun

Yesterday I had my first Chemo treatment.  The meds they used are a combination called FEC for breast cancer.  I took two ativan before I went and pretty much slept through the whole thing.  Brian, Michael and Nicole accompanied me, which I was grateful for.  The rest of the day, I slept off and on between eating, drinking and sort of watching a movie.

Today, I had my port put in, a permanent IV line for receiving medication and also for blood to be drawn from.  This will reduce the number of needle pokes I get over the coming year.

Good news today:  Brian's niece, Jamie and her husband had a baby boy named Edward!  Both mom and baby are doing well.
